Entrer in formal French
Formal French uses pénétrer for forced or deep entry — « les secours ont pénétré dans le bâtiment » — and accéder à for gaining access, including the figurative kind: « accéder à un poste ».
The noun l’entrée covers a doorway, an admission ticket, a starter course and a dictionary entry. Context alone separates them, and all four are frequent.
