Bearing, in the oldest sense.
Formal French keeps porter in the sense of bearing: porter un nom, porter la responsabilité, porter témoignage. Each is fixed, and each sounds weightier than a plain alternative.
Administrative writing uses porter à la connaissance de — to bring to someone’s attention — where speech would simply say dire. Recognising these frames is most of what C2 register actually means.
