Fast forms and one provocation.
Spoken French compresses this verb: « j’cherche » with the vowel gone. And the ne disappears: « je cherche pas ». You will hear « cherche pas » on its own meaning “don’t bother” or “don’t look into it”.
« Va chercher ! » is what you say to a dog, so avoid it with people. But « je vais le chercher » — I’ll go and get it — is constant, and often shortened to « j’vais l’chercher ».
💡 Focus at this level: Native slang
1. « Cherche pas » = don’t bother. Common, slightly weary.
2. Swallow the vowels. « J’vais l’chercher » is normal speed.
3. Avoid « va chercher » with humans unless you are joking.
