Youtube video

🎬 About this episode

Our very own cartoon! A robot breaks down and it’s panic stations — someone has to CALL Doctor Ferraille (Doctor Scrap-Metal!) for an emergency repair. This episode is a perfect first meeting with phone French: the magic word allô (used ONLY on the phone), and how the French describe something that stopped working.

🔊 Key phrases — listen for these

Allô, docteur Ferraille ?Hello, Doctor Ferraille? (phone hello!)
C’est une urgence !It’s an emergency!
Qu’est-ce qui ne va pas ?What’s wrong?
Ça ne marche plus !It doesn’t work anymore!
J’arrive tout de suite !I’m coming right away!

🔑 The language point

  • Allô ? exists only on the telephone — never greet someone in the street with it! Face-to-face is bonjour.
  • Ne… plus = not anymore: ça ne marche plus (it stopped working) vs ça ne marche pas (it doesn’t work).
  • J’arrive ! — literally “I arrive” — is THE French way to say “coming!”
