    📘 Good to know

    • Le camping is both the activity and the place: on va au camping means you’re off to the campsite, not just ‘going camping’.
    • A camping-car is a motorhome and a mobil-home is a static caravan — France borrowed the English words, then quietly changed the meanings.
    • French campsites have star ratings like hotels — a quatre étoiles can mean pools, waterslides and evening discos, not roughing it.
    • Say camping the French way: kahm-PEENG, with a nasal first syllable. Same for parking — English -ing words all get this makeover.
