Ironic starts
« Ça commence bien ! » almost always means the opposite. Said when something goes wrong at the outset, it is dry, universal and instantly recognisable — the exact equivalent of English “great start”.
Commencer sur les chapeaux de roues means to start at breakneck speed. And recommencer — to start again — is the verb you actually need most often; « on recommence » is what any teacher says after a mistake.
