The reflexive turns « trouver » into « to be located ».
Se trouver means to be situated: « la gare se trouve près d’ici ». It is the neutral, slightly formal way to say where something is, and it is everywhere in directions, guidebooks and administrative French.
Two more worth owning. Trouver le temps — to find the time — is the polite excuse and the polite offer. And s’y retrouver means to make sense of something confusing: « je ne m’y retrouve plus » is what you say when the paperwork has defeated you.
💡 Focus at this level: Idiomatic — se trouver
1. Use « se trouve » for places. More natural than est when giving directions.
2. « Je n’ai pas trouvé le temps » is the standard soft apology.
3. « Je ne m’y retrouve pas » admits confusion without admitting fault.
