Default = adjective goes after the noun. The exceptions (BAGS) are short, frequent adjectives that go before.
A few adjectives change MEANING with position: ancien, grand, propre, cher, seul, pauvre, dernier — learn these pairs.
Before a vowel, beau/nouveau/vieux become bel/nouvel/vieil: un bel appartement, un vieil ami.
