📘 The politeness operating system
- Bonjour first, always — before any question, in any shop. Skipping it is THE foreigner error.
- De rien is casual; je vous en prie is the elegant formal “you’re welcome”.
- Excusez-moi opens an interruption; pardon repairs a bump; désolé owns a fault.
- Bonne journée is for LEAVING — greeting someone with it sounds like goodbye.
- À vos souhaits after a sneeze; after the second sneeze, « à vos amours ! » — yes, really.
