📘 Talking sport like a French fan

  • Jouer à for games with a ball or opponent: jouer au foot, au tennis. Faire de for activities: faire de la natation, du ski.
  • France’s big three: le foot (Les Bleus!), le rugby (le Tournoi des Six Nations) and le cyclisme (le Tour de France, every July).
  • « Allez les Bleus ! » — the national cheer; adapt it to any team: allez Paris !
  • Score talk: « On a gagné 2 à 1 » (we won 2-1), « match nul » = a draw.
  • Le judo bonus: France has more licensed judokas than almost anywhere — Teddy Riner is a household name.
