English enters a room. French enters INTO it.
English says “I enter the room” with no preposition. French requires one: entrer dans. « J’entre dans la salle. » Leaving out dans is the standard beginner error with this verb — and it is the exact mirror of the chercher trap, where French drops a preposition English needs.
The verb also elides: je becomes j’ before the vowel — « j’entre ». And the imperative « Entrez ! » is what you say when someone knocks.
