The participle is « rendu » — an -RE ending, not -é.
-RE verbs form their past participle in -u, not -é: rendu. So « j’ai rendu les clés ». The same pattern gives vendu, attendu, entendu, perdu — another reason to learn the family as a block.
It takes avoir, so no agreement with the subject. The imperfect is regular from the nous stem: je rendais.
💡 Focus at this level: Past — what you gave back
1. Participle in -u. rendu, vendu, attendu, perdu.
2. Avoir, so no subject agreement.
3. « Rendre » in the past is often about obligations — books, keys, money.
