With « à », searching becomes trying.
Chercher à + infinitive means to seek to, to try to: « il cherche à comprendre » — he’s trying to understand. It is slightly more literary and more deliberate than essayer de, and it suggests sustained effort rather than a single attempt.
The conditional je chercherais gives advice from a distance: « à ta place, je chercherais ailleurs » — if I were you, I’d look elsewhere. That « à ta place » frame is worth taking with it.
💡 Focus at this level: chercher à + infinitive
1. « Chercher à » = to strive to. More sustained than essayer de.
2. Advise with « à ta place, je chercherais… ». Very natural French.
3. Keep « pour » out even here. The preposition is à, never pour.
