se souvenir at C1 — refined & idiomatic

Threats, sharp memories and careful denials.
The idioms of memory
« Il s’en souviendra ! » said with a hard edge is a threat: he will not forget this. Said warmly about a birthday it means the opposite, a memory he will treasure — the tone does all the work. « Se souvenir comme si c’était hier » is the standard formula for a memory that has not faded: « je m’en souviens comme si c’était hier ».
The noun carries its own idioms: « garder un souvenir cuisant de » means to remember something with lasting sting, usually a humiliation. And note the defensive construction « je ne me souviens pas d’avoir signé » — « de » plus a past infinitive. It is what people say in an argument when they will not quite deny anything, and it is heard in every French courtroom.
