Vouloir in fine print
Administrative French softens every order with « bien vouloir » : « je vous prie de bien vouloir patienter » — kindly wait. The imperative « veuillez » does the same job faster. Turn the verb into a noun and you get « le bon vouloir » : « selon le bon vouloir du ministre », at the minister’s pleasure. Not goodwill but whim, and quietly critical.
Two staples of print: « la légende veut que » — legend has it that — with cousins « la tradition veut que » and « l’usage veut que », all followed by the subjunctive. And « en temps voulu » promises action in due course, which in bureaucratic French often means never. Both mark polished, written style.
💡 Focus at this level: Formal — bien vouloir, la légende veut que, en temps voulu

The subjunctive: « la tradition veut que l’aîné soit servi le premier ». Vouloir imposes it even here.
