💡 Pourquoi c’est du B2
This « ne » is stylistic and optional — formal/written French. Dropping it is fine in speech; the meaning doesn’t change.
The trap for learners: seeing « ne » and translating it as a negative. If there’s no « pas » (or plus/jamais/rien), the « ne » is explétif — ignore it for meaning.
Appears after verbs of fear/precaution (craindre, avoir peur, avant que, à moins que, de peur que) and in comparisons.
