Tomber amoureux
Tomber amoureux de — to fall in love with — takes de, and the adjective agrees: « elle est tombée amoureuse de lui ». The image is the same as in English, which makes it easy to remember and easy to get slightly wrong on agreement.
The pattern tomber + adjective or noun covers a whole family of sudden states: tomber malade, tomber enceinte, tomber d’accord. French treats all of them as falling into a condition.

1. « Tomber amoureux DE ». Never avec.
2. The adjective agrees. « amoureuse », « amoureux ».
3. Subjunctive after fear. « J’ai peur qu’il ne tombe. »
Elle est tombée amoureuse de lui.She fell in love with him.
Ils sont tombés d’accord.They came to an agreement.
J’ai peur qu’il tombe.I’m afraid he’ll fall.
Il est tombé dans le piège.He fell into the trap.
