1. A1 — Three little words that turn single sentences into real speech.

Structure	Exemple	Traduction
et · mais + parce que	J’aime le thé et le café.	I like tea and coffee.
	Il est gentil mais timide.	He’s kind but shy.
	Je reste parce qu’il pleut.	I’m staying because it’s raining.

💡 Astuce : Trois mots = des vraies phrases : et, mais, parce que.

2. A2 — Consequence, time and purpose — your sentences grow up.

Structure	Exemple	Traduction
donc = alors + pour + infinitif	Il pleut, donc on reste ici.	It’s raining, so we’re staying here.
	Quand il fait beau, je sors.	When it’s nice, I go out.
	J’étudie pour réussir.	I study in order to succeed.

💡 Astuce : « donc » : la conséquence — « il pleut, DONC je reste ».

3. B1 — The written-French connectors that structure a paragraph.

💡 Astuce : « pourtant » = le « mais » qui insiste : c’est cher, POURTANT j’achète.

bien que + + subjonctif	Bien qu’il soit tard, je reste.	Although it’s late, I’m staying.
	Je t’explique pour que tu comprennes.	I’m explaining so that you understand.
	On sortira à moins qu’il ne pleuve.	We’ll go out unless it rains.

💡 Astuce : « bien que » appelle TOUJOURS le subjonctif : bien qu’il SOIT tard.

5. C1 — Structure a French argument: certes… mais, or, néanmoins, en revanche.

Structure	Exemple	Traduction
certes … mais + or → donc	Certes, c’est difficile, mais possible.	Admittedly it’s hard, but possible.
	Le projet est coûteux ; néanmoins, il est rentable.	The project is costly; nevertheless, it’s profitable.
	Il pleut ; en revanche, il fait doux.	It’s raining; on the other hand, it’s mild.

💡 Astuce : « Certes… mais » : concéder pour mieux répliquer — l’arme de la dissertation.

6. C2 — The connectors of scholarly and literary French.

Structure	Exemple	Traduction
en outre · dès lors + en définitive	En outre, les données confirment l’hypothèse.	Furthermore, the data confirm the hypothesis.
	Dès lors, tout changea.	From then on, everything changed.
	Quoi qu’il en soit, il faut agir.	Be that as it may, we must act.

💡 Astuce : « Force est de constater que… » — l’ouverture des rapports sérieux.

7. Native — Du coup, en fait, bref — the words that glue every French conversation.

du coup · en fait + bref	Il pleuvait, du coup on est restés.	It was raining, so we stayed in.
	En fait, c’est pas compliqué.	Actually, it’s not complicated.
	Bref, on a raté le train.	Long story short, we missed the train.
