The concession waltz

« Certes, c’est cher, mais la qualité est là » (admittedly… but). « Néanmoins / toutefois » (nevertheless), « en revanche » (on the other hand — NOT « par contre » in formal writing).

The logical hinge « or »

« Or » introduces the decisive fact of a reasoning: « Tous les hommes sont mortels. Or Socrate est un homme. Donc… » — the connector of essays and syllogisms.
