résoudre in real spoken French
On this page
Nobody solves anything out loud in France.
Real spoken shortcuts
Résoudre does survive in speech, but squashed and negative: « j’vois pas comment résoudre ce truc » — « je vois » becomes « j’vois », the « ne » disappears, and « truc » replaces whatever the problem is. Speech also swaps « nous » for « on » and « cela » for « ça ». That is about as far as the verb goes.
The street stand-ins for « résoudre » are three. « Gérer » is the everyday one — « t’inquiète, j’gère » means I have it under control, familier but fine at work. « Se démerder » is crude and warm at once, to sort yourself out, friends only. And « c’est plié » is the street way of saying « c’est résolu » — the thing is sorted, done, closed.
💡 Focus at this level: Native slang — j’vois pas comment résoudre, gérer, se démerder
