regarder at B1 — future & conditional

« regarder » — jump to your level:A1A2B1B2C1C2Native

Plans, and a gentle way to suggest checking something.

We’ll have a look

On regardera — we’ll have a look, we’ll see about it — is how French postpones a decision politely. It is the standard non-committal answer to a request you do not want to refuse outright.

The conditional softens a suggestion: « tu regarderais si c’est ouvert ? » — would you check whether it’s open? Here regarder means to check, not to gaze, which is an everyday sense learners rarely produce.
