The elegant absence: when French drops the article entirely.
« Elle est médecin » — no article after être + profession. But with c’est, it returns: « C’est un médecin ». Same for nationality and religion used as adjectives.
After « en » (« en voiture », « en colère »), in enumerations (« hommes, femmes, enfants : tous étaient là »), after « sans » and « avec » + abstract (« avec plaisir », « sans effort »).
💡 « Elle est médecin » — mais « c’est UN médecin ».
