Que je devienne

The subjunctive follows the same singular/plural split: que je devienne, que tu deviennes, qu’il devienne, but que nous devenions, que vous deveniez, and back to qu’ils deviennent.

It appears after wishes and necessity: « il faut que tu deviennes plus patient », « j’aimerais qu’il devienne autonome ». Because the verb describes change, it sits naturally with verbs of wanting.

1. Double n in the singular and ils.

2. Nous/vous keep the -en- stem.

3. Pairs naturally with « il faut que ».

Il faut que tu deviennes plus patient.You need to become more patient.

J’aimerais qu’il devienne autonome.I’d like him to become independent.

Avant que ça ne devienne un problème.Before it becomes a problem.

Bien qu’elle soit devenue célèbre, elle reste simple.Although she became famous, she stays down to earth.
