Nobody called; I only have you; neither tea nor coffee — the B1 toolkit.
« Personne ne répond » — nobody answers. The negation flips to the front. Same for « rien » : « Rien ne marche ».
It means only: « je n’ai qu’une question » = I have only one question. No « pas » anywhere — that’s the trap.
Neither…nor: « je ne bois ni thé ni café » — and the articles disappear.
💡 « ne … que » = seulement — ce n’est PAS une négation !
At B1 the pattern should work in conversation at normal speed, including the common exceptions. Push yourself to use it while talking, not just in exercises.
Feeling shaky? Step back to La Negation at A2. Comfortable? Level up to La Negation at B2.
