The « ne » is dead — long live « pas ». How the French actually negate.
In conversation, « ne » vanishes almost 100% of the time: « je sais pas » (j’sais pas), « c’est pas grave », « t’inquiète » (don’t worry — the negation is entirely implied!). The negative meaning now lives in « pas » alone.
