Poser des questions at A1 — intonation & est-ce que
On this page
Two ways to ask anything on day one — no grammar gymnastics required.
Way 1: just raise your voice
Take any sentence and lift the end: « Tu parles français ? » Done — that’s a real question, and it’s how the French ask most of theirs.
Way 2: the magic key « est-ce que »
Glue « Est-ce que » to the front: « Est-ce que tu viens ? » It never changes, never fails. With these two tools you can already ask everything.
💡 Ou montez simplement la voix : « Tu viens ? »

💡 Your A1 goal
At A1 your goal is recognition and first use: understand the pattern when you hear it, and produce the two or three simplest forms without thinking. Accuracy over ambition — short and correct beats long and broken.
