Fold a question inside a sentence — and watch the word order flip back.
« Où habites-tu ? » becomes « Je me demande où tu habites » — no inversion, no question mark. « Est-ce que » becomes « si »: « Dis-moi si tu viens ». « Qu’est-ce que » becomes « ce que »: « Je ne sais pas ce que tu veux ».
At B2 you choose: intonation with friends, est-ce que as neutral default, inversion in writing and with strangers. Using all three appropriately is what examiners listen for.
